The appearance or design of a product often plays an important role when deciding between one product and another — and the time and effort invested in a design is often great. A registered design provides protection of your product’s appearance for a limited period of time and allows you to prevent others from using a design that is identical or very similar to yours. To protect a design in Sweden only, the design is registered with the Patent och Registreringsverket (PRV). To protect a design across the EU, a design is regsitered with the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM). In the U.S., a design is protected by a design patent through the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). KIPA can assist you during all phases of the registration process in Sweden, the EU, and internationally through our network of local associates. We can also assist in the design patent application process in the U.S.
